About the Department

Department History

The Department of Higher Education has a rich legacy of growth and development. Here is a brief timeline of its significant milestones:

1948
The State Education Department was established, marking the beginning of organized education administration in the state.
1949
The department was headed by the Chief Education Officer, assisted by four District Inspectors of Schools and one Lady Supervisor.
1950
The post of Chief Education Officer was re-designated as Deputy Director of Education.
1950-51
The First Five-Year Plan was introduced, with a strong focus on improving the education sector.
